I am The Hotel Carmel. If you are looking for a seaside getaway or just a quick pit-stop on your drive along the iconic Highway One, then look no further. I am located in the heart of Carmel-By-The-Sea, yet far enough from the center to offer a quiet and peaceful lodging experience with cozy rooms, a tempting DIY bagel bar in the morning and a complimentary wine hour in the evening. Take the time to enjoy a glass on the house and gather around my inviting communal fire pit to swap stories with friends and strangers alike. By day, explore Carmel Beach. The crescent white sandy shore backed by cypress trees is known for surfing, tanning, and immaculate sunsets. On your way to the beach, make sure to stop downtown. Here you will find everything from locally sourced produce, boutique shops to cute eateries, all of this and more just minutes from my grounds.

What to do in Carmel-By-The-Sea

Runs & Hikes by the sea: Make sure to stop at the Visitor Center on Ocean Avenue to learn more about the self-guided walks in Carmel-By-The-Sea. Here you can find everything from beautifully manicured gardens and fairytale cottages to the stunning Spanish architecture. Visit The Mission of Carmel: Just one mile south of Hotel Carmel is Mission San Carlos Borromeo del Carmelo. This is a popular place for visitors to enjoy peaceful gardens and serene courtyards. The complex also offers four museum galleries providing insights into the history of the Mission and its restoration. Wine Tasting: The Monterey Peninsula offers numerous tasting rooms, and is one of the up & coming wine destinations in California. If you are interested in a way to get multiple wine tastings during your short visit, check out the Carmel Wine Walk-By-The-Sea Passport available at the visitors center. We recommend Trio Carmel & The Cheese Shop as alternatives to the Passport. Day trips to Big Sur: Carmel is in the perfect location to take trips down the coast and into the famed Big Sur National Park. Wind down Highway One amongst the grandeur of the California Coast and stop by Bixby Bridge and McWay Falls, before enjoying a little lunch at the Big Sur Bakery. Restaurant Recommendations in Carmel-By-The-Sea: Carmel Bakery - the perfect place for coffee and pastries. Little Napoli - feels like an afternoon in Italy with flavorful ingredients. Vesuvio Restaurant - with a rooftop terrace and relaxing ambiance, you will find here divine Italian cuisine and probably the best burger in town. La Playa Carmel - get an all you can eat champagne breakfast at the sister property of the Hotel Carmel.
