ABOUT ME

I am the Serengeti Pioneer Camp. I am located right in the beating heart of Serengeti National Park. In the Maasai language, Serengeti means endless plains and there is no better place than here to experience the essence of the original mobile Safari. Find the Big 5 by day and be neighbors with impalas, hyrax, lions and hyenas by night. After exploring every corner of the park, come back to enjoy a cup of tea or a glass of wine amongst the awe-inspiring views of my lodge atop the rocks. Once the sun has set my staff and I will welcome you to a romantic candle light dinner beneath the Milky Way.

WHAT TO DO IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD

Game drives are the highlight of these plains. Set out in the early morning and stay out all day long, stopping only for a delectable bush lunch. If you are lucky you may spot all of the Big 5 here (elephants, rhino, lion, buffalo & leopard), as well as witness the beginning of the great migration of the wildebeest.

Take to the skies for a whole different safari experience. Glide effortlessly across the plains with Serengeti Balloon Safaris. Of course it is dependent on the weather, but they fly all year around.

When the weather is warm and you are not out searching for the elusive leopard or parades of elephants, grab your favorite read and cool off in my pool overlooking the plains.

SHARED SECRETS

Did you know that a group of lions is called a pride?

Sergenti is 5,695 square miles. This huge savannah is home to so much wildlife including at least 4 threatened or endangered species — the black rhino, the elephant, the wild dog and the cheetah. Also amongst the plains in the largest unaltered migration in the world. With over 1 million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands others, they embark on a 1,000 km long annual journey from Serengeti to the Masai Mara and then back again.

There is an African tribe called The Hadzabe. They are one of the last tribes in Tanzania that has maintained its traditional hunter and gatherer way of life, passed down by their ancestors. With only 1000 still remaining, they are the only tribe who can legally hunt in the Serengeti.
