ABOUT ME

I am Jing’s Residence. I was built 268 years ago, right in the center of the ancient town of Pingyao. Once the home of a wealthy silk merchant, I pride myself on the ancient traditional wooden carvings and beautiful window frames from the Qing Dynasty. As you enter through my big wooden doors, get ready to be transported back in time. I will enchant your senses — with my ancient look, the smell of lemon grass in the air and the taste of a divine signature welcome drink. Each of my 14 rooms are set around one of my four courtyards and there is no better place in all of Pingyao to enjoy a cup of Chinese Pu’re tea.

WHAT TO DO AT Jing’s Residence

Step outside of my grounds, right into the hustle and bustle of the UNESCO Heritage site of Pingyao. Exploring this ancient town is a given. This quaint little city has so much to offer, from tasting the delicious street food and viewing ancient temples, to wandering through the most beautiful small little streets during the night, when everything is lit up in red and gold.

Walk around the 6km long ancient city wall, that was built to protect this beautiful city against invaders. This isn’t just any kind of Wall, this is chinas most preserved wall. When I say ancient I am not talking a couple hundred years but thousands — 2700 to be exact.

SHARED SECRETS

Every night you will find a little something on your bed after the turn down service, but not telling you what that may be. Jing’s Residence has a special love to detail.

Make sure to ask about the Noodle Course. With Pingyao being world famous for its multitude of different kinds, shapes and sizes of noodles, this would be the place to learn from the best. Soy Milk lovers listen closely — the soy milk here is nothing I have ever tasted in my life before. It is out of this world delicious. Every night we would drink a glass and I have to say I miss this routine already.

When coming from Beijing I would suggest taking the train. The tickets are very affordable and it is a stunning 4h ride in a high speed train. The staff at Jing’s offers a pick up from there. If you prefer to fly then, Taiyuan would be the closest airport, but then you would still have to get to Pingyao either by train, taxi (another 1.5-2.5 hours). Jing’s Residence offers a pick up service in a 7 seater from Taiyuan airport or the train station for around 850RMB ($135 USD) per car.
