I am Hotel La Yegua Loca. I live at foot of the iconic Cerro La Cruz hill, one of Punta Arenas most popular viewpoints. Deeply rooted in the area’s culture and customs I am an homage to my Patagonian ancestors. I welcome my guests with a warm smile and a feeling of the rural Patagonian countryside with my ranch house inspired design. Come and stay in one of my 15 boutique rooms, each one as unique as the last, all decorated with antiques typical to a specific trade. On clear days you can not only enjoy an incredible view over the seaside city but of the Strait of Magellan and Tierra del Fuego. My onsite restaurant serves some of the best food in Punta Arenas, if not all of Patagonia, highlighting the region’s most famous dishes. Enjoy a glass of red wine by the wood-burning stove before indulging on slow-cooked beef atop a delectable pumpkin puree. All of this and more is only a step away from your cozy room.

Highlights & Attractions at Hotel La Yegua Loca

Punta Arenas is located on the Strait of Magellan and is often used as either a quick stopover before heading into the Torres del Paine National Park or for excursions en route to Antarctica. However, the city still has quite a variety of things to do. Explore Punta Arenas: Walk through the small downtown area, stop for a coffee and then make your way to The Plaza Muñoz Gamero, which has a memorial of Ferdinand MagellanThe Nao Victoria Museum is a private museum providing a life-size replica of one of the ships the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan sailed on. The entrance fee is $6 USD for an adult and $3 USD for children. Get lunch at Wake Up cafe or get a famous traditional Magellan bite at Kiosk Roca of Punta Arenas, serving choripan with mayonnaise accompanied by milk with banana, this, however, might not be for everyone. Whatever you do, be sure to return back to La Yegua Loca Restaurant within the hotel and enjoy stunning views of the Strait of Magellan while you dine. Open from 10:00am to 11:00pm during high season, from October - April. Cerro de la Cruz: This lookout point is located right behind Hotel La Yegua Loca and offers the best panoramic views of the city and the Strait of Magellan, the area's greatest natural landmark. Visit the Magellanic Penguins: Book the Magdalena & Marta Island Expedition for $100 USD and sail through the Strait of Magellan to the Magdalena and Marta Islands.
