About Me
I am the Eastern & Oriental Express. Sit back, relax and let me take you on an unforgettable journey through three of Southeast Asia’s most lively cities: Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Bangkok. I am vintage, mysterious and alluring. Come aboard and meet your personal cabin steward dressed in a beautiful traditional silk uniform who will be at your service night & day. My eclectic mix of elegance, luxury, outstanding customer service, and divine cuisine will leave you with memories you will cherish forever. Enjoy gourmet lunches and dinners in one of the three dining cars, while passing through lush paddy fields, green jungles, and ancient villages along the way. Take a short excursion to the mesmerizing backcountry of Malaysia and learn about the production of rice and rubber, before continuing onwards. Once you’ve settled back into your cabin, let your personal steward sweeten your afternoon with some carefully curated delights and tea as you gaze out my panoramic windows and admire the ever-changing scenery drifting by just beyond. As day turns to night, fall asleep to the sounds of the train — the distant bellow of the horn, the soft rumble of the tracks below — while watching the dark sky pass above until your eyelids droop closed. Allow me to fill your heart with joy, your mind with wonder and rekindle the romance of the rails. Step back in time and aboard my enchanting cars on a one of a kind voyage through the heart of Southeast Asia.
What to do on and off the Eastern & Oriental Express
The Observation Car. This might be the crown jewel of the train. Here you can get an unobscured view of the scenery all around you and feel the warm wind blow through your hair. Whether you are looking to witness the sunrise, enjoy a midday cup of tea or sip on a Signature Cocktail in the evening, this is the perfect place.
The Piano Bar. Serving Signature Cocktails, soft drinks and a variety of international liqueurs, this is the car you want to come to before or after dinner. As the pianist moves his magical fingers along the keys, get lost in conversation over an Aperol or some fine wine.
The Dining Cars. The food on the Eastern & Oriental Express is one of the highlights of the whole journey. Yannis Martineau, the Executive Head Chef has been spoiling the taste buds of the passengers of the Eastern & Oriental Express for the last 9 years. His recipes are an infusion of local and modern ingredients. The local flavors of the dishes change with the landscape. One night you might be devouring a delicious Thai curry and the next a Malaysian delicacy.
Choose your excursion to your interest —
Classic Tour. Cruise along the Khwae Yai River aboard a local raft with views of the teakwood houses along the river bank. Locals Flavors Tour. Your guided tour begins with a visit to a vibrant wet market and an acclaimed rice noodle house where you will learn about the traditional processes used. After, proceed to Wat Nue Pier to board a river raft and participate in a traditional Thai cooking class on board as you drift along the River Kwai. Disembark at Chong Kai War Cemetery for an optional visit before heading back to the train by minivan.
Tracks to Unseen Thailand Tour. Disembark in Kanchanaburi Station and into a minivan en route to the rural Village of Nong Kao, for your hour-long bicycle tour. Cycle through the verdant rice fields and stop for a fascinating demonstration at a local Thai farm. Return to the Traditional Thai Wooden House for a relaxing infusion before returning to the train.
