To give you an idea of what you can expect, here are a few of our favorite excursions: Valley of the Moon: Walk amidst this unique landscape with massive rock formations that will surely take your breath away. Be prepared to witness a one of a kind sunset over this spectacular geological area created by the Andes Mountains and the Cordillera de Domeyeko. Includes an aperitif cocktail.We also recommend to ask for a private scenic tour of the Valley of the Moon. This way you will get to see all the best spots within the valley, hike amidst this moon like landscape and end your tour overlooking the crater. Before you reach the famous Andean Lagoons of Miscanti and Miñiques you will stop at a local village named Socaire, which is known for its traditional Church and historical terraced plantations of quinoa and purple potatoes. During this excursion you will also see unique flora and fauna that has adapted to the high altitude. Get picked up in the lobby in the evening and make your way to the only open air observatory in the region. Choose from one of the six swivel chairs and get comfortable under your blanket as you learn about all the constellations, planets & the Milky Way. If you are lucky you might even see the ring of Saturn or some moons of Jupiter through a powerful telescope.Duration: 1 hourDifficulty: EasyAltitude: 2,490 m Kari Gorge: Your adventure begins with a walk across the open plains leading you into narrow pathways and passed formidable mineral mountains. Enjoy mesmerizing landscape during this hike to Quebrada de Kari. While you walk, your knowledgable guide will give you an insight into the historical and geological history that has shaped these landscapes. You might get to spot the some rare and high-altitude birds during your walk.Duration: Half dayDifficulty: MediumAltitude: 2,550 mAcclimatization: None Rock Art: Discover the petroglyphs, thousands of years old in the region of Hierbas Buenas. Your guide will explain to you the rock art that remains from the local shepherds and farming communities. Before you return back to the Alto Atacama you will move onto Rainbow Valley, an area that stands out due to its multicolored hills and cliffs caused by the buildup of different mineral deposits reflecting in the sunlight.Duration: Half-dayDifficulty: EasyAltitude: 3,250 mAcclimatization: None Restaurant Recommendations in San Pedro de Atacama: La Manada Atacama - a rooftop terrace with probably the best sunset views in all of San Pedro (plus the food is divine).
